Objective: To encourage students to reflect on a positive experience and express gratitude. This practice strengthens memory for good events, supports emotional well-being, and helps create a shared sense of appreciation in the classroom.
Instructions:
1. Hand out index cards or slips of paper.
2. Ask students to think of one small positive moment from the last 24 hours—for example, a laugh, a kind word, a nice meal, a beautiful sight, or something they enjoyed.
3. Invite them to write a short “postcard message” about this moment, as if sending it to a friend. One or two sentences are enough. Assure students that sharing is optional.
4. Allow 1–2 minutes for writing.
Optional Extension:
1. Students who feel comfortable can drop their card anonymously into a Gratitude Jar.
2. Over time, let the jar fill with these positive notes.
3. At the end of a term or during a special session, read a selection aloud (without names) to celebrate shared good moments. This creates a visible symbol of positivity that grows throughout the year.
Reflection Questions:
1. If you wish to share, what moment did you write about?
2. How did you feel while remembering it?
3. Did writing it down make the memory stronger or more meaningful?
4. Was it easy or hard to think of something positive?
5. How might it feel to revisit these notes at the end of the school year?
