Welcome to Wellbeing in schools
Have you ever wondered how often teenagers feel cheerful and in good spirits, calm and relaxed, active and vigorous, or fresh and rested after waking up? These are some of the questions the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study asked 11-, 13- and 15-year-old teenagers.
The results showed that as teenagers grow older, their experienced wellbeing consistently declines, and this drop is even more noticeable in girls compared to boys. On a scale of 0 to 100 points, where 100 indicates the highest possible wellbeing, 11-year-olds scored an average of 67.5 points, 13-year-olds 59.8 points, and the scores of 15-year-olds dropped to 55.9 points. Moreover, PISA testing in 2022 revealed that students who were better able to control their emotions or were more resistant to stress outperformed their peers by around six points. Source
This shows that true educational success goes beyond traditional academic skills and achievements and includes emotional regulation as an important component. Therefore, the project Wellbeing in Schools tries to address this issue and give educators, as well as students themselves, mindfulness tools, resources and skills to actively work with their emotions in order to lower stress levels and increase life satisfaction.
