Desk Research Report: Journal Articles

We are pleased to announce the publication of the Desk Research Report: Review of High-Impact Journal Articles on Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBI), developed within the framework of the WellbeingInSchools Erasmus+ project.
This report provides a comprehensive overview of the most influential academic research on mindfulness programs for children, adolescents, and teachers in school settings. Drawing on 40 highly cited journal articles published between 2004 and 2024, the study offers valuable insights into how mindfulness-based interventions can support well-being, resilience, and inclusive education in primary and secondary schools .
The desk research explores key aspects of mindfulness implementation in education, including:

  • Types of mindfulness programs implemented in schools, from standalone courses to curriculum-integrated approaches
  • Core components of MBI practices, such as meditation, breathing techniques, body awareness, and social-emotional learning
  • Target groups and providers, highlighting how both students and teachers benefit from mindfulness interventions
  • Geographical and research trends, showcasing the global development of mindfulness in education
  • Evidence of impact, including improvements in emotional regulation, mental health, academic performance, and teacher well-being

This publication serves as a key foundation for the development of the project’s upcoming outputs, including a Mindfulness Toolkit for educators and a digital mobile application. By grounding these tools in evidence-based research, the project ensures that mindfulness practices are both effective and adaptable to real classroom environments.
